The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed ‘multi-patient ventilators’ to battle coronavirus pandemic in India. The critical COVID-19 patients require ventilators to breathe.
These multi-patient ventilators will support more than one patient through one unit. “In case, there is a large number of patients and a shortage of ventilators, then we can use one ventilator for multiple patients, says DRDO Chairman, Dr. G Satheesh Reddy.
Dr. Reddy also said that the ventilator has been tested in a couple of hospitals and by a couple of doctors and those have given some suggestions to DRDO. The final product with new features will be ready in the next couple of days, he added further.
The DRDO aims to make around 5000 ventilators in the first month. The organization is also developing other protection equipment including five-layered N-99 face masks for the healthcare workers, and sanitization vans.
